133. 461087 During the last night, many civilians joined with the retreating fighters. This rocket launcher was loaded with women and children, a grotesque icon of life and death at a time. In the darkness of the shore of Kotcha river, before crossing, I was able to take just this poor picture.

135. 461080 The radio room, where report from different patrol and locations are collected and possibly re-directed

137. 461085 Another wounded in the first aid post
138. 461257 During the retreat, I felt compelled to ask my driver to give a hitch to this family (You cannnot see the head of family who is hanging out of the vehicle). The baby stood totally silent during the whole 40 minutes trip back to the safety of the Kotcha river. The Taleban stopped thir offensive in Kwaja Haggar, from where they were dislodged few weeks later.

267. 000 Summer Program in Israel Pictures (page #2).

268. The Sachne is one of the most famous springs in Israel-conveniently located at kibbutz Nir David. This photo was taken by Neal Bierling, a professional photographer and archaeologist who visited the site. The Summer Program group with leaders Robert Haak and Ellie Beach are joined by Augie alum Ira Weisberg ('67) at the Jordan River. Irael is a resident of Poriya, a town overlooking the Sea of Galilee. Katie McCallum and Catherine Huck show how the real work gets done in their square at Tel Rehov. The cabins at Nir David come equipped with kitchens, although meals are served 'on the job' at the dig site and in the kibbutz common dining hall-a bit like dorm food they say! Leah Hensley and Eric Fistler examine the precious contents of a bucket containing pottery they have excavated. This pottery helps to date the time when the city of Rehov existed… and was destroyed. Bob Haak and Catherine Huck meet outside the cabins at Poriya Youth Hostel overlooking the Sea of Galilee. The group stayed here the first three nights in Israel. Catherine Huck learns fast! Rest and water breaks are essential…. but this one went on for twenty minutes, I think! The Augustana group (minus Megan Haney and plus Tim Fries-an Augie grad who is now a supervisor at Rehov) relax for a moment under their sun screen at the tel. RoxAnne Richer and Eric Fistler use a trowel and dustpan to show how one really excavates a square properly. We won't say who, but someone even made their bed (sort of) before leaving for the dig at 5:00 AM.
